Let’s put aside Julia Roberts’ and Richard Gere’s exceptional acting skills displayed through Pretty Woman. The chemistry between these two had even the most skeptical people believing in love. So good were these entertainers that even unscripted additions perfectly furthered the movie’s story.
For example, in the scene where Richard’s character offers Julia’s a necklace, he shuts the box just before she touches the jewelry. Imagine if the actress would have seen the beautiful stone, admired it, and said thank you. Predictable and therefore boring, right? The director who improvised the stars’ reactions certainly knew what he was doing.
