Being in authority comes with the ability to make people listen. However, this seems not to always be the case based on the story this person was told by his dad. The setting was in class when the teacher was teaching about authority.
The teacher gave the example of himself being able to tell the whole class to leave because the lesson was over but an ordinary student not being able to. Afterward, the student in the example told the students to leave, and they actually did!
