As per Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, barred owl chicks have a unique development pattern distinct from other young birds. Instead of waiting to fly, they venture out of the nest at 4-8 weeks of age, despite not being able to fly yet. It takes them around 12 weeks to fully acquire the skill of flight.
