Kindness Knows No Altitude

In a remarkable and uncommon rescue effort at high altitude, a Nepali sherpa guide named Gelje Sherpa saved a Malaysian climber near the peak of Mount Everest in June 2023. The expert spotted the climber in distress, gripping onto a rope and suffering from severe cold, within the death zone where temperatures plummet to -22 degrees Fahrenheit or beyond.

Over six hours, Gelje brought the climber down 1,968 feet from the Balcony to the South Col. Nima Tashi Sherpa, another guide, also joined the rescue.
