Tragedies That Shaped The Life Of Matthew Perry and Other Friends Cast Members

A Pricey Battle for Sobriety

In November 2020, amidst his battle with addiction and numerous rehab attempts, Matthew faced a perilous moment when his heart stopped for five minutes due to a risky interaction between propofol and hydrocodone in his system. CPR saved his life, but it came at the cost of eight broken ribs and missed scenes with Meryl Streep in “Don’t Look Up.”

Matthew’s struggle with substance abuse began with alcohol at 14 and later opiates after a jet ski accident during the filming of “Fools Rush In.” His commitment to sobriety led to an expenditure of approximately $9 million.
