Stuff That Is Normal In Movies, But Make Absolutely No Sense In Real Life

Hacking Equals Fast Typing

There are few things Hollywood gets as wrong as hackers. If you believe the movies, chances are you think all hackers are just kids living in a basement who know how to type very fast.

Few movies are as sensationalistically unreal when it comes to hacking as the ’90s dramedy Hackers. With Jonny Lee Miller and a young Angelina Jolie leading the cast, this way-too-fictional movie presents hackers as a cool skateboarding-like crew who loves to surf the web. There are scenes in which these hackers even get a 3D avatar of themselves on the computer so they can physically hack the web. Needless to say, this ’90s “masterpiece” aged quite awfully…

Hacker misrepresentation in films is far from over. But back in the ’90s, when the Internet was still a novelty, some scenes were so wrong that you couldn’t avoid bursting a laugh. That’s what happens when middle-aged producers and directors don’t do their research right!
