It’s a classic: characters in movies who hang up their phones without saying “bye.” It’s so common that it has even led to some hilarious memes on the Internet!
Once again, action films are the main culprit. Here’s a typical scenario: the hero requires some vital information, so he calls one of his friends. He goes through hell and beyond to get access to a secluded piece of intelligence and communicate it to the hero. The hero hears about it and hangs up without saying “bye” or “thank you.” This typically happens because the hero is too busy doing something dangerous. But even a man on the run should have enough time to be polite.
Who still calls people anymore? A one-on-one conversation makes for a more satisfying movie scene, but people usually text these days. We’d like to see a little bit more text-messaging in our favorite films from now on. At least, people don’t have to say “bye” when they’re texting.
