Mexico is Orange
Movie-makers are accustomed to applying all sorts of visual effects to their scenes. But as countless memes on the Internet have pointed out, there seems to be a somewhat prejudiced practice of making Mexico look orange.
We believe it’s a way of helping the viewers to quickly tell that they’re no longer watching a scene in America. Since the way things look is different, viewers can assume right away that they’re watching a scene from a foreign country. This, of course, doesn’t apply in real life. Even though Mexico looks like Mexico, there’s nothing particularly orange about the whole country.
The same color filter can be used to point out different locations around the globe. Russia will always look more like Russia when viewed through a grey filter. On the other hand, “Mexican” orange can also be applied to places like Africa and South America.
