Stuff That Is Normal In Movies, But Make Absolutely No Sense In Real Life

Scientists Know Science

In the Sci-Fi movie Annihilation, the biologist Lena (Natalie Portman) is supposedly an animal expert. Yet, she has no problem with making scientific assumptions about plants and other stuff.

Why? Well, in movies, it’s merely convenient that scientists know science. In the real world, scientists are always the first to admit their ignorance on some issues. After all, scientists have pretty narrow areas of expertise, and they don’t like to make assumptions they don’t understand completely. Not in the movies, though, where a scientist is a scientist, and a scientist knows the science of things, period. Can you imagine how boring it’d be if our favorite film scientists constantly asked for an expert’s opinion?

Nevermind knowing all kinds of science. If you believe movies, academics are not only always good looking and fit, but they also know how to use weapons and defeat the bad guys. And yes, we’re talking about you, Dr. Indiana Jones!
