Rivets For Lasting Denim

No one really paid attention to these tiny buttons in jeans, with some thinking that this was purely for aesthetic reasons. They are called rivets and are strategically placed in areas prone to tear and wear due to movement or strain.

According to Denim Hunters, rivets have become only decorative in recent times. It was said that Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss & Co. invented riveting jeans in 1873. This is done by hammering or pressing a disk or “washer” through the fabric.
