No party is ever one without red cups. A certain Robert Hulseman created them in the ’70s, meant to be used during family picnics. While we use them for the practical reason of holding our beverages, avid drinkers must know that the lines indicate the amount of liquid.

According to USA Today, Hulseman didn’t intend to make the lines the measure of the drink, but it was purely coincidental. These days, the company revealed that they had removed the lines on the cups, which were created to avoid stacking.
