Willian Demarest actually replaced William Frawley in the character of Uncle Charley on ‘My Three Sons.’ The actor started his showbiz career as a stage artist, appearing alongside his wife Estelle Collette as ‘Demarest and Colette’ in ‘Vaudeville.’ He then moved on to perform on ‘Broadway.’

Demarest later starred in several films working with director Preston Sturges, including ‘The Lady Eve’ and ‘The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek.’ He was one of those actors who Sturges repeatedly used in his films. William was cast as the lead role in NBC’s sitcom ‘Love and Marriage’ before joining the cast of ‘My Three Sons’ in 1965, which later became his most notable performance on television.
