Usually, before pitching one’s tent, people look for areas with easy access to water, not only shade and windbreak. Before Dirk allowed fear to get him thrown into the water, he heard a third voice that wasn’t from any of the two men he had seen earlier.
Interestingly, the voice was coming from the back of the mountain but not from the ground. It came from above, responding to the two men with an affirmation that he was on edge.
