At this point, Dirk regretted his adventure. As their flashlights shone in his direction, he heard one of the men shout that whoever was behind the rock should get out. Who were these men, and did they see him? It didn’t matter. Dirk quickly hid again, hoping to avoid them.
Every breath he took felt like a ticking bomb. All he could do now was wait for something to happen. He remembered his wife again and realized he couldn’t reach her because of his big mistake.
