When The Director and Actor Don’t See Eye-to-eye

Director Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski collaborated on five films, including “Aguirre, Wrath of God” and “Fitzcarraldo.” Both films were notoriously difficult to produce, and the two men had a volatile relationship. Werner admitted to pointing a gun at Klaus while filming the first aforementioned film.

In a 1999 interview with The New York Times, Werner said that he did this because the lead actor had threatened to walk off set and felt he had to do something to keep Kinski from leaving! Yikes, that’s excessive!
