Palms Are Also Used During Lent
The Catholic Church is a stickler for tradition, and Palm Sunday is no exception. On this day, which falls on the sixth Sunday of Lent, Catholics gather to commemorate Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.
As part of the celebration, palm fronds are distributed and blessed by a priest, and the congregation walks in a procession. But what happens to those blessed palms after Palm Sunday? They get burned and used as ashes for the following year’s Ash Wednesday ceremony.
