When Comedy Goes Too Far
The late American comedian Gilbert Gottfried was generally very funny, but he took his passion for comedy a little bit too far when he tweeted about the 2011 Tohoku tsunami in Japan, which took the lives of more than 15K people. Add the old-timey reference to Japan’s “surprising advancedness,” and one has all the ingredients of a bad-taste joke.
Luckily, Gottfried was not canceled after this one despite the negative backlash and continued to make people laugh for real until passing away in 2022.
