Box Office Bombs That Drove Studios Out of Business

‘The Office’ cast, including John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, and Ed Helms have transitioned seamlessly into having successful careers in showbiz. But, fellow actor Rainn Wilson has not had the same luck outside of his comfort zone.
Since shooting to fame as the awkward ‘Dwight Schrute’ on the NBC sitcom, Rainn landed the lead role in the comedy ‘The Rocker.’ The not-so-lucky rocker does well for himself in the end, but things rolled out differently for the movie itself. Grossing a measly $2.6 million on the opening weekend, ‘Fox’ faced a ‘Titan A.E.’ deja-vu when they had to shut down operations of their ‘Fox Atomic Studio’- dedicated to comedies.
It could be that since Rainn is so perfect in his role as Dwight, audiences have typecast him and are unable to see him play any other role. Nothing else explains the low audience numbers since he’s a brilliant funnyman, and definitely has a loyal fanbase too.
