Box Office Bombs That Drove Studios Out of Business
The Adventures of Pluto Nash, 2002
The movie was a critical failure from start to finish and ended up bleeding the production company millions of dollars. A lot of factors were responsible for the debacle.
Starting with the reception of the audience, ‘The Adventures of Pluto Nash’ has been awarded a meager 4% on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviewers’ general opinion was that the script was bland, and overall views were overwhelmingly negative. The total budget was $120 million, and the film only earned back $7 million, which is quite the gap. Even though the film involved some big-ticket names, it failed to generate buzz, and the quality of every element just did not gel well. It regularly features on the biggest flops list, and we can see why.
‘The Adventures of Pluto Nash’ was supposed to be Eddie Murphy’s big foray into the sci-fi genre. Considering how the film flopped and lost close to $110 million, perhaps the actor should have stuck to his strengths.
