Robert Irsay Took Baltimore Colts to Indianapolis
The Baltimore Colts were among the most prolific NFL outfits during the late ’50s and the early ’60s. The Colts clinched the NFL championship in 1958 and 1959. Despite the success, the team had to struggle on the financial front.
In 1971, team owner Robert Irsay declared his intention to move the Colts to Indianapolis. Despite the outrage of the fans in Baltimore and the attempts of city officials to stop him, he successfully did so. But the team could not repeat its success story in the first few years.
