Several Gamecocks Coaches Sent to Jail for Providing Steroids

Tommy Chaikin, who played as a defensive lineman for the University of South Carolina, co-wrote “The Nightmare of Steroids,” an article that revealed the widespread use of PEDs by the Gamecocks players in the mid-’80s. He accused several coaches of encouraging the players to use steroids to accentuate their performance levels.

Based on the information received from the piece, a federal grand jury held four Gamecocks coaches responsible for distributing performance-enhancing drugs to the players. While three of them pleaded guilty, the fourth person was acquitted.
