The University of Miami Bore the Brunt After Violating NCAA Rules
Luther Campbell, a rapper from the “2 Live Crew” hip hop group, was found to have paid some Miami Hurricanes players up to $500 for every sack, interception, and a touchdown in key games between 1986 and 1994. Over 40 former players from the University of Miami confessed to accepting bounties during a two-month-long investigation.
While Jimmy Johnson, the head coach of the Hurricanes through 1988, declined to comment, Dennis Erickson, his successor, was unaware of the infractions. Butch Davis, who succeeded Erickson, had to bear the brunt.
