Bear Bryant Sidelined Joe Namath for Misconduct

Joe Namath found himself in troubled waters when he was accused of misconduct on campus in December 1963. While playing college football, the former quarterback violated the Crimson Tide’s no-drinking policy. For this infraction of the team’s training rules, head coach Bear Bryant suspended him for the final games.

He returned the next year and went on to play in the American Football League and the National Football League. Throughout his thirteen-year career, Namath primarily plied his trade for the New York Jets.
